SAGUENAY, July 20, 2017 // The Anarchist Collective Emma Goldman today launches a poster
and information campaign against systemic racism and hateful groups in response to the
"Saguenay Ville Blanche" posters posted yesterday. Our leitmotiv remains: "For every
racist gesture, let's do 5, 10, 100 anti-racist actions! ". As we live in a context of
economic crisis and imperialist wars that are bogged down, we are experiencing a rise in
populism, social exclusion and the scapegoating of groups on the basis of their religious
beliefs or Of their physical appearance, we want to strengthen, without intermediaries,
the bonds of an inclusive and anti-racist community. ---- It is necessary to collectively
realize that the Blanche majority today holds a privileged position in Quebec society,
that it was constituted on the colonial oppression of the First Peoples, that we must pass
from silence to the action. In order to break the chains of racism, we must create more
and more ties of solidarity with the groups undergoing it and develop, in our initiatives
here and now, a model of egalitarian society in which the systems of oppression will be
abolished.

Racist and hateful groups continue to develop with impunity, in the light of the police in
Saguenay. Without even having their information, we are able to identify the individuals
behind the small group that placed the signs "Saguenay White City". It turns out that
these individuals are well known to the municipal police department and journalists of the
region. But we do not expect anything from the "forces of order". They demonstrated a
spirit of openness and collaboration in groups such as La Meute, on the occasion of the
Islamophobic march of March 4, 2017, and more recently during an act of vandalism on the
mosque of Chicoutimi (we will unveil exclusively More details on this incident in the day
of tomorrow, see our blog at http://ucl-saguenay.blogspot.ca/).

We call the people of the city to wake up before these ideas do more gangrene the
community. Do not hesitate to contact us to let us know about your initiatives or if you
want to participate in our campaign.

Not sure where that whole month went - one minute we're posting our annual report and the
next minute it's the Fourth of July!  Here's what The International Anti-Fascist Defence
Fund has been dealing with over the last month or so: ---- 1) Portland.  If you're reading
this blog you're probably also familiar with the incident in Portland where a white
supremacist, verbally abusing two teenaged Muslim girls on public transit, expressed his
objections to bystanders asking him to stop doing so by stabbing three of them, killing
two and hospitalizing a third.  This seems like exactly the kind of thing the Defence Fund
was set up for.  Except when you factor in how well-publicized and well-supported the
Portland anti-Islamophia Good Samaritans were.  Within days no fewer than five different
crowdfunding campaigns were set up and by the time we got to our decision those campaigns
had collectively raised $1.5 million for the three intervenors + two victims of the
initial verbal threats.

In the end, we decided that it'd be better for us to save the little we have in the
Defence Fund for anti-fascists and anti-racists whose circumstances were not as
well-publicized or supported.  Which segues nicely to:

2) Harrisburg.  The problem with confronting fascists is that their big buddies the cops
will intervene to arrest or harm you, usually before your efforts can amount to anything.
This was the case for a friend from Philly, who went to Harrisburg to confront an
Islamophobia rally only to be shoved by one cop back into a police horse, which was all
the excuse the cops needed to lay no less than five separate charges, including assault on
a police horse!  Bail was set obscenely high and so our pal was compelled to rely on
support from other anti-fascists, which the Defence Fund was happy to contribute to.

We also received a few other requests for support but were either unable to confirm the
circumstances of the case or a verifiable way to deliver material support to the person(s)
in question.  Some of those we are still pursuing though + there is another proposal that
we should reach a decision on this week, so stay tuned!

Greetings comrades! ---- Bristol antifascists invite you to come and show your solidarity
with antifascist prisoners worldwide. We are organising letter writing and card signing at
this gig, from 7.30pm on Monday July 24th: ---- facebook event ---- If you can't make the
gig, how about getting together with your friends / comrades / group and letting our
imprisoned comrades know that they are not alone? An up to date list of prisoners can be
found here: ---- global-antifa-prisoner-list ---- The International Antifascist Defence
Fund provides solid support for arrested and imprisoned antifascists worldwide and so is
also well worth supporting: ---- As the third annual July 25th International Day of
Solidarity with Antifascist Prisoners approaches, we find ourselves fighting the hydra of
fascism and far-right ideology. While its many heads have distinct looks in different
parts of the world, this beast spews the same venomous poison of nationalism and bigotry
everywhere. It demonizes refugees and immigrants, stokes hatred for Muslims, and attacks
LGBTQ and other oppressed groups who are fighting for liberation and their very lives.

The July 25 International Day of Solidarity with Antifascist Prisoners originated in 2014
as the Day of Solidarity with Jock Palfreeman, an Australian man serving a 20-year
sentence in Bulgaria for defending two Romani men being attacked by fascist football
hooligans. Whether acting as individuals or as part of larger organized demonstrations,
this is the kind of bravery and solidarity which defines antifascist actions against the
forces of hate. Since the day of solidarity last year, we have seen this spirit all over
the world-in Indonesia, Czech Republic, Brazil, Poland, England, Greece, the United
States, France, Syria, Australia, Japan and all points in between.

While antifascism is global, unfortunately so is state repression. In the U.S., hundreds
of antifa have been arrested resisting both the Trump regime as well as Far Right street
forces. In Belarus, the state continues to harshly repress the antifascist resistance.
While many of these comrades are awaiting sentences, there are still many who languish in
prison. We will not forget these comrades behind the prison walls!
We call on anti-fascists worldwide to act in solidarity with antifascist prisoners.
Consider having an event or dedicating an action to them. They are in there for us, and we
are out here for them!

No Pasaran!

Until All Are Free!
