50,000 years of civilization could go extinct in our lifetime

UN: Help End the Genocide in West Papua, Indonesia! Sign Now Dear friends, The world's longest‐running military occupation and genocide is still on going, and it is taking place right now in West Papua, Indonesia. This area is home the world's second-largest rainforest and a civilization that dates back 50,000 years. But now the West Papuan people and their lands are all in danger of becoming extinct. We cannot sit back and watch this happen any longer. We must speak up! Sign the petition now. More than 500,000 people have already been killed in the West Papua genocide, and there's no sign the pace will slow down. Already this month, more than 135 people — including 79 children and youths — have been arrested for peaceful protests. The Indonesian police tortured many of them. Last year alone, the Indonesian police rounded up more than 8,000 children and adults illegally. The Free West Papua Campaign has started a Care2 petition demanding that the UN intervene immediately, before more lives are senselessly lost. Thousands of people from West Papua have literally risked their lives to sign it, in the hopes that their voice will reach the UN. In just a few weeks, dedicated human rights supporters are going to swim 69 kilometers across Lake Geneva to bring this petition straight to the United Nations headquarters. Let's make sure that when they arrive in Geneva, they have the support of tens of thousands of people from around the world!
