This shelter will save lives

Dear friends,
Did you know that being gay is still a crime in Morocco and can get you 3 years in prison?
The government has been continuously cracking down on lesbian, gay, bi and trans people. Like two men who were beaten by a homophobic gang last year and then arrested for being gay. Or two teenage girls who were arrested last October after they were spotted kissing and hugging.
In both cases, All Out members stepped in and helped partners free these innocent men and women. But countless LGBT people are still living in danger in Morocco, right now.
Our Moroccan partner group (who wishes to remain anonymous for their own safety) helps homeless LGBT people. Many are young people kicked out by their families and living in constant fear of violence or arrest. Our partners have very little resources and are forced to hide people in their own apartments. But if enough of us chip in, they can launch Morocco's first shelter for LGBT people.

Dear friends,
I can't tell you where I'm writing from because I'm afraid my family will find me. They forced me to marry a man I didn't know, as punishment for being a lesbian.
I had to run away from home. But because being gay is illegal here in Morocco, I couldn't go to the police or a women's shelter. And there are no shelters for lesbian, gay, bi, and trans people here, either.
I was incredibly lucky to find a group of activists who help homeless LGBT people. This group (who wishes to remain anonymous for their own safety) found a temporary apartment where I can hide, but I can't stay here for long.
This group already has a secret location ready to turn into a shelter for me and other LGBT people. But they have very limited resources and can't afford the costs of rent, food, medical support, and other necessities. That's why I'm reaching out to you today.
Help launch Morocco's first LGBT shelter. Chip in now.
With enough support from All Out members, this group of activists will be able to keep an emergency shelter running for at least a year. This will have a huge impact on the lives of LGBT people in need. There has never been a safe place for us to go when our families kick us out, or we need to hide from persecution or violence.
I hope one day my family will accept me for who I am. Until then, I'm also getting help with going back to school so I can continue my studies, find a job, and support myself.
I'm so grateful for their help. But I know many others like me are in urgent need of help, too.
Thanks for going All Out,
Sophia*
