Stop gay torture camps in Chechnya

Amnesty works in some of the world’ most dangerous situations so we can advocate on behalf of people facing oppression. After last month’s crackdown on gay men in Chechnya, we are mobilizing to stop the government-sanctioned abduction and killing of gay men.

Your support of Amnesty can fund these efforts.

Dear friends ,

Over a hundred men suspected of being gay have been abducted, tortured and even killed in the southern Russian republic of Chechnya.

LGBTQ people have never had it easy in Chechnya. But the targeted punishment of gay men that began last month under its leader is a frightening turn in the region’s long history of rights abuses.

Amnesty urgently needs your support now. We are mobilizing our worldwide movement to call out the Chechen government on the persecution of people who are, as they put it, of ‘non-traditional orientation.’ We are also urging immediate action to ensure their safety. Please donate now.

The Chechen government won’t admit that gay men even exist in Chechnya, let alone that they ordered what the police call ‘preventative mopping up” of people they consider to be undesirable.

It will take a groundswell of phone calls, letters and protests to make sure that Russian and Chechen authorities investigate the abductions and bring those responsible to justice.

We must stop this before it escalates any further. Donate now.

Sincerely, Margaret Huang
