Dear all,
The WatchTheMed Alarm Phone has published its latest report, entitled ‘Solidarity at Sea is not a Crime!’, and you can find it on our website:https://alarmphone.org/en/2017/06/14/solidarity-at-sea-is-not-a-crime/?post_type_release_type=post
And also on our Facebook page:https://www.facebook.com/watchthemed.alarmphone/posts/1932147263726174
In the report, we give an account of our work and developments in the Mediterranean over the past six weeks and focus on the vicious de-legitimation and criminalisation rhetoric and campaigns that have surged in the past few weeks, seeking to undermine the indispensable work of non-governmental Search and Rescue actors in the Mediterranean. We also remember the lives that were lost there in the deadliest distress case that we had to deal with so far: On the 26th of May 2016, at least 500 lives were lost when a boat capsized that was pulled by another large boat to which we had established contact. In order to contest EU deterrence policies that continue to lead to these mass fatalities, we are amongst many groups and networks all over Europe and around the Mediterranean that have called out for a range of mobilisations starting in early September under the slogan ‘Welcome United - Fighting for social rights’.
Please read and share!
All the best, the Alarm Phone
