Zambart, formerly Zambia AIDS Related Tuberculosis (ZAMBART) is a research-focussed non-governmental organisation that conducts research on HIV and Tuberculosis to help control and mitigate the impact of the dual epidemic. Zambart staff form an interdisciplinary team with a range of expertise including epidemiology, clinical science, social science, laboratory, operations research, health systems and services research, health policy analysis, health economics, health communication and counselling.
Trial Summary
HPTN 071/PopART (Population Effects of Antiretroviral Therapy to Reduce HIV Transmission) is a 3-arm cluster randomized trial that aims to determine the impact of a combination HIV prevention package that includes universal HIV testing and treatment on population level HIV incidence.
The PopART for Youth (P-ART-Y) Study is nested in the HPTN 071/PopART. The P-ART-Y study will be conducting a cross sectional survey which aims to determine the uptake of HIV testing within the previous 12 months and linkage to care and treatment in adolescents aged 15-19 years old in the control arms of the HPTN 071 (PopART) trial. This survey will be implemented in four study sites (communities) in Zambia.
To support our wide range of research activities, we are looking for 12 candidates to fill the position of 12 Research Assistants (RAs).
Research Assistants (12)
The candidates will be stationed in the following four communities
- Shampande, Choma (3)
- Chawama, Lusaka (3)
- Ngungu, Kabwe (3)
- Chifubu, Ndola (3)
Tasks and Responsibilities
- Locating households selected for the survey using maps
- Explaining PopART, P-ART-Y and the Survey to household members
- Enumerate households and study participants
- Enroll adolescents aged 15 to 19 years old according to the study protocol
- Administering the survey questionnaire
- Data collection using an electronic data device (tablet).
- Filing and completing study documents
- Referring study participants to appropriate HIV prevention and treatment services
- Performing any another duties as required by the supervisor
Essential requirements
- Aged between 18-30 years
- Grade 12 certificate
- Computer literacy and ability to use an electronic data capture device (tablet)
- Excellent oral communication skills
- HIV psychosocial counselling skills
- Knowledge of the main local languages in the area

- Experience in HIV psychosocial counselling
- Proven experience of being active in youth-related community activities or research work
- Prepared to work in a busy and challenging environment and flexible working hours
- Knowledge of the study community and an understanding of the dynamics
- Previous research experience
- Resident in the catchment area
The appointment is for a Three (3) months contract.
