Humanitarian Project: "Earth Children of Mind and Heart" by Johanna

Earth Children of Mind and Heart seeks to fill the void of early learning in South Africa, with an emphesis on children from disadvanged areas. There has for too long been a shortage of early childhood learning programmes available, due to lack of interest by government~ rather, their focus are on grooming matriculants, by discouraging them from vital subjects of maths and science, to ensure the highest provincial matric pass rates and thus, killing our future industry and economy. Sadly though, communities are not interested about what really goes on behind closed doors and thus, willingly succumb to the usual mind control. As a freelance writer, i have informed on the deteriorating state of our education system, but to no avail.

Where i come from, people only care about their own and nothing else and hugely depend on the next activist to standup on their behalf and ensure change to fall into their laps. But enough is enough, which is why i've come up with my initiative that uses a different approach to ensure the success of our little future leaders.

~BACKROUND~
Currently, there are no early childhood learning fascilities operating within my area or disadvantaged areas, if you will. But I have done the necessary inquiries at schools and it would seem, all are experiencing the same critical problem with children's literacy and no help from the education department to bring relief or assistance within the area. Children struggle to read, yet, the curriculum starts learning subjects before the child can even read. Also, primary school teachers do not understand the mathematical formulation they are to teach children. Fortunately, some schools, but not all, have identified with this and are now putting special programmes in place to combat this serious matter. But this is just a fraction of an ongoing problem with no hope for resolve unless communities and parents actively become involved.

~GOAL AND OBJECTIVE~
The primary goal is to create and environment filled with love, patience, peace, compassion and kindness. Whereas the objective is to encourage selfexpression and awareness, creativity, gratitude (Dr Imotos thankfulness and forgiveness) mindfulness, Earth, Water, Energy and consciousness awareness, including breath exercise and awareness, cognitive exercise, (superbrain yoga) story telling and literacy, through animal shaped alphabet.

~STAFF~
Staff will consist of unemployed mothers and fathers, community members, interns and in particular, the retired elderly, and here, the objective is to fill the dream of many of our elders, dumped in old age homes, while they so much want to assist in making a difference in the world and who better to help our future leaders through literacy programmes. It will give our elders something to look forward to everyday instead of waiting to go home cause nobody cares, and of course, there will be transport provided. This is my dream too, as my heart goes out to our elderly, left to just die.

Staff will be trained in the provided early childhood education curriculum. Each will play an important role, maintaining high programme standards, by setting through example and keeping in mind that we are the blueprint for our children and that they learn through example and often mirror adults. The curriculum aims to target children between ages of 5 and 7 at preprimary and primary schools.

~FINANCIALS~
The cost of getting this service off the ground is estimated at round about R500,000 which includes initial property aquisition, renovation, equipment, transportaion, staff salaries, staff training and operating capital.

~COMPETITION~
There are no competition at this stage, but what is worth mentioning is a newly established early childhood social franchise, funded by DH Murray Trust Fund, called "Smartstart" Early Childhood Education, covering age groups, between 3 and 5 years, that i intend to include in my long term plan as a follow up programme, as the age groups i have in mind, are between 5 and 7, while theirs cover between 3 and 5. The difference between my initiative and theirs, is that they are looking to establish new day care centres and empower entrepreneurship within disadvantaged areas in charge of their own individual venues within a geographical area. Only, i come from these areas and as much as i support the idea, i also know these people and they do NOT trust themselves enough to take charge.

My idea serves to aid and create employment opportunities, getting parents and communities involved in grooming our future leaders, fill the void in our elders and provide hands on experience for our interns. The service will run its course at existing preprimary, and primary schools, eliminating additional costs for new establishments. I thank you SO much for your interest to assist me in fulfilling my life's mission, to make this world a better place to live and breathe in.

Love and Light
