After reading the question about why the catholics pray to Mary, I thought I would give my opinion.
After reading the question about why the catholics pray to Mary, I thought I would give my opinion.
I was born and raised catholic. And grew up questioning everything about it. Complete skeptic.
But I will say one thing :
I am of Portuguese background. And apparently, one of many "miracles" by Mary happened to be in Portugal.
I know some people have a problem talking to, or praying to a male figure. And mary is a softer, gentler option.
Also. When I hear the crowds sing to mary in prayer. The reverence is astounding. The air is thick. People get emotional. It is really very beautiful.
I agree with the person who originally posted. Speaking directly to God is the ideal. The Only way. But I have also marvelled at the adoration people have of this female persona.
Maybe she is the female version of the one God? Just another way to approach him.
Another thought that I like to believe. Mary is mother earth. Who is here for us. That would completely explain the magic I feel in the air when groups of people sing to her. Mother earth is a physical entity. One that God has created as well.
Hmmm...
Hope this opinion might explain a little of why Mary is so strong to catholic religion
