The story she told my dad, The night War of the World was aired, she was there, and they wanted to judge the response of the public if they disclosed the alien presence. They wanted to install a fear based response at the mere mention of an alien presence. People went crazy, police were getting phone calls from people reporting they were seeing and hearing the invasion, it was the first test of mass mind control.
