Today , as much of this week has been, was gray, damp and gloomy weatherwise. It was dank as they say , so my early morning mood was in need of a shot in the arm. I was outside and some yellow daffodils, among my favorite flowers caught my eye.
This morning as I was leaving for work I noticed that some of the daffodils had already lost their petals and were a little droopy. The hyacinths with the powerful and perfumed fragrance were lost for another year. Had I already spent too much time not noticing the flowers, what a sad idea that would be, for spring is ephemeral and it slides by quickly. The Dogwoods and Magnolias are in bloom, the Cherry Blossoms are fallen to the earth.
I was about to get into the car to go off to work, but the bright yellow tulips drew me in..
I rummaged about for my camera and walked about the yard and took a few photos to save the memory of the flowers on this otherwise very gloomy mid spring day.So what if I arrived at 9:10 rather than 8:55, would it make a difference. The yellow tulips actually have a blush of red in them, but to notice you must move in very close, the colors are riveting.
As I moved about, I notices some low growing flowers along the base of the fence in the back, I had not seen them so full before, so they had their portrait taken just for the heck of it. They are so small and delicate.
The last grouping 6 in number , reminded me that there are six of us siblings , out of nine , still living. It was not a disturbing thought, it was just a thought. It caused me to think of them, which in turn caused me to think of broader family. My wife had gone to work a bit earlier and I thought that perhaps she should look at the flowers more often. The things that you think as you age and realize just how long you have trudged off for another work day. We have worked hard.
I don't know why that thought crept into my head, but it did and I thought of my recently departed sister who loved flowers. The morning brightened on that note. Sometimes you just have to stop and view the flowers. Sometimes you had better stop to take in the scene.
