AVON: Sheriff Thomas J. Dougherty reports the arrest of three people from Mount Morris following a traffic stop. On April 17, 2017 Deputy Rick Gage stopped a vehicle on Lakeville Road (Route 15) in the Town of Avon for a vehicle and traffic law violation. The driver of the vehicle, 22 year old Mercedes N. Bowes, was also found to be driving with a suspended license (2 times on two dates). Bowes was taken into custody and allegedly found to be in possession of a bag of heroin. The Deputy Sheriff requested the assistance of Deputy Matthew Thomas and Deputy Shawn Whitford as there were two passengers in the car with her.
Following a drug investigation on scene by Deputies, Matthew J. Mckenzie, age 30, was allegedly found to be in possession of a hypodermic needle as well as four (4) bags of heroin and five (5) bags of cocaine. Three (3) additional bags of heroin, thirty two (32) unused hypodermic needles, and eight (8) Trazadone pills, were also recovered from the vehicle, deputies said.
Bowes was charged with Aggravated Unlicensed Operation of a Motor Vehicle in the 3rd Degree and Criminal Possession of a Controlled Substance in the 7th Degree.
Mckenzie was charged with two (2) counts of Criminal Possession of a Controlled Substance in the 7th Degree and Criminal Possession of a Hypodermic Instrument.
The third passenger in the vehicle, 36 year old Christopher W. Campbell, was charged with Criminal Possession of a Controlled Substance in the 7th Degree.
All three were turned over to Central Booking Deputies at the Livingston County Jail for processing and pre-arraignment detention.
The three were later arraigned in the Town of Avon Court before Justice Piampiano. The Judge remanded Bowes to the custody of the Sheriff on $1,500 cash bail or $3,000 secured bond. Campbell and Mckenzie were both remanded on $500 cash or $1,000 secured bond.
"Folks carry drugs are now trying to use alternate routes so they don't have to encounter Deputy Sheriffs on Interstate 390," stated Sheriff Dougherty. "However, we have Deputies patrolling all over the county 24/7/365 and they excel at their duties. If you are carrying drugs, you will be caught, you will be arrested and you will go to jail."
