Gay men are being tortured and killed. | |||||
Dear friends, Something horrible is happening in the southern Russian republic of Chechnya. For the past couple of months, gay men all over the country have been reported missing. According to credible sources inside Chechnya we have talked to, over one hundred men who are suspected of being gay have been abducted, tortured, and killed.1 We need your help to stop this. Call on the government of Chechnya to stop abducting and killing gay men The Chechen government won’t admit that gay men even exist in Chechnya. For example, one government official went so far as to deny that gay people exist in the country at all, “You cannot detain and persecute people who simply do not exist in the republic.”2 Gay men in Chechnya are in grave danger from the homophobia that is prevalent in the country. We urgently need your help to call out the Chechen government on the persecution of people who are, as they put it, of 'non-traditional orientation' - and urge immediate action to ensure their safety. Sign the petition now and urge the Russian and Chechen authorities to investigate these abductions and bring those responsible to justice.
