Don't Allow Saudi Arabia on
UN Women's Rights Commission!
UN Women's Rights Commission!

Dear friends, The United Nations (UN) is doing something commendable: it has decided to establish a new Commission on the Status of Women as part of its work to promote women's rights. This group will be the main global body that is "exclusively dedicated to the promotion of gender equality and the empowerment of women." But then something alarming happened to ruin it all. In a secret vote, members of the UN decided to elect Saudi Arabia to serve on the new women's rights panel. Saudi Arabia does not belong on a council devoted to women's empowerment and equality. As the Executive Director of United Nations Watch, Hillel Neuer, said: "Electing Saudi Arabia to protect women's rights is like making an arsonist into the town fire chief." This is a country with an absolutely horrific record on women's rights, which continues to oppress women in many ways to this day. The Saudi Arabian government bans women from driving cars and arrests those who protest this law. Even more frighteningly, every woman in Saudi Arabia is required to have a male guardian who makes all critical decisions about her life for her, from birth until death. Thank you for all that you do,
