Give All Girls Hope: Pledge to Stand Up for Every Daughter, Everywhere

Dear friends Hi, I’m Nikolaj Coster-Waldau. You may know me from HBO's Game of Thrones. My role on that show is obviously very important to me, but there's another role that's much more important: father to my two amazing daughters. As a husband and father, empowering women matters to me. That's why I've launched this pledge on Care2. I know the women dearest to me are actually the lucky ones. Half a billion women around the world still cannot read. 60% of people affected by chronic hunger are women and girls, and 155 countries still have laws that oppress women. It's our responsibility to change this. That's why I've teamed up with United Nations Development Programme to celebrate International Women’s Day on March 8. We’re working with Care2 to create a pledge, on behalf of fathers like me around the world, to inspire our daughters, and give all girls hope. I pledge to remind my daughters regularly that there is absolutely nothing they can't achieve. I pledge to speak out against practices like child marriage, forced marriage and female genital mutilation. I pledge to support policies and legislation that combat violence against women all over the world. I pledge to be an advocate, not just for my daughters, but for women everywhere.
