I really did not comprehend this notion, because, being that I resided in an integrated school district in the Chicago suburbs and was an athlete that inter-related with black students and their families, we were just one happy family despite the "outside" turmoil around us.
What the hell was all this race stuff all about?
We were brought into the moment on a daily basis by the "NOW PRESENCE" of sports. Sports bridged the crap/gap that we were being fed to divide us. We were a TEAM...to succeed we had to transcend the shit (and boy we had it in the late '60s) and the false ideologies of separation. Call us what you want: we played in joy and loved each other more than one can imagine.
I remember when we were getting ready to play our all-white neighboring school for a high school football championship. It was 1969 and racial tensions were high.
As team captain, I addressed the team beforehand. One of my black teammates came up to me afterward and said "...you are a nigger."
That was one of the most accomplished days of my life.

PS. Forgive Yosef, if you may...he is bravely compelled beyond his filter. He is the master of getting a rise out of us. What fun is that...
I read that our "political self" is about 3% of our make-up. Why are we letting politics divide us? Let politics move through us, not divide us. We are of importance only if we have each others' backs.
Let us transcend external polarizing aspects of our intertwining lives and develop our Unity Consciousness by simply going within our Christ Consciousness Violet Flame which is our true strength.
"I, even I, am he who blots out your transgressions, for my own sake, and remembers your sins no more. Review the past for me, let us argue the matter together; state the case for your innocence." Isaiah 43: 25-26
