"Swamp Creatures" - GCR/RV Op-Ed - Friday - March 3, 2017
Dear Yosef,
That needed to be said, thank you. I think it needed to be said because it is one aspect of the truth we must realize. Yes, those things really happened. There is such a thing as repentance and reconciliation. I think that’s what you are doing, and I think it's what you are asking us to do. Thank you.
I’m not going to steal your thunder, you go ahead and thunder! I would like to offer my view – another side of truth – as I see it. I am a person of color. At least that is the way the world sees me, even though besides African heritage, and native American heritage, the blood of the English and German also run through my veins. Maybe I received this body because of where I stand in my heart. I do not need or want to be greater, only equal. And I am, so be it! Intuitively, I know that the desire to be greater is a trap. From victor to victim we swing eternal, never resting, always ignorant of that font that is always enough.
The argument (you gave on the real truth call) that darker skin is a superior design because it is more resilient to the sun is weak. Because yes, if you live in Africa or India, more melanin is a good thing. But if you live in Ireland, it's not needed. Each shade is perfectly suited, and not lacking.
In the coming years, it will be wonderful to see people of color rising. But I beseech all to remember the destination is equality. Have you ever heard what native Americans said to one another when the pale faced men landed? They said, “He has a terrible illness. His illness makes him unable to appreciate, and so he remains always hungry. Keep a distance, lest you catch his disease.”
Well, how feasible is it to stay away? But inoculation is called for, it’s quite serious. How are we going to protect ourselves from a virus so strange? I know of only one way: Constantly give thanks, and continue to partake of the bounty that flows without ceasing, just for me, just for you, for all people and all things. It’s a mystery! It's so obvious! Hallelujah! When I ask myself, why did all this happen? The answer that comes is that in contracting the disease and experiencing that thirst, we now take refuge all the more.
With Love,
Rosestillarose
