Indonesia: Protect children from harmful tobacco farming

Dear friends,
Farm labor is incredibly taxing on the human body. Performing manual labor in harsh conditions outdoors leads to a wide range of injuries and health problems for adults. But today, there are thousands of children working on tobacco farms in Indonesia, and the impacts on their health is even more devastating.
Some of these kids are just eight years old. Like most farmworkers, they're exposed to toxic pesticides in the fields and forced to mix chemicals in the plant. Combined with exposure to nicotine, many of the kids become sick with nausea, dizziness, and nicotine poisoning.
The tobacco industry has a strong hold in Indonesia, so despite Indonesia's child labor laws, many officials are willing to ease up on regulations for tobacco farms.
But there is no price large enough to make children suffer like this. It's time for Indonesian officials to take action. Not only do they need to hold companies accountable, they must also educate parents about the dangerous risks posed to kids working on tobacco farms.
Thank you for making a difference,
