Hybrid*k
The Hybrid project was created in 2016 in the framework of the European Capital of Culture Donostia 2016 and the Organisation EU-Japan Fest. It’s original version premiered at the New Tokyo National Theatre, under the artistic direction of choreographer and dancer Motoko Hirayama, and was then presented with great success in four cities of the Basque country.
The Hybrid*k performance, redesigned by Motoko Hirayama specifically for the European Capital of Culture Pafos2017, explores the moment of the emergence of new species through hybridisation, as opposed to the usual collaboration of different cultures.
Baraba Okuyama, a Butoh dancer (ex-member of Dairakudakan), Kotaro Mizushima, a contemporary dancer, and Motoko Hirayama, create and promote all that is produced through their hybridization with the Basque rhythms and sounds of Oreka TX and the melodius Ainu song by Emi Toko and Fukiko Goukon.
Oreka TX consist of Harkaitz Martinez de San Vicente, Mikel Ugarte, Juanjo Otxandorena, Mixel Ducau, IƱigo Eguia and Carlos Solano.
With the cooperation and support of the Cultural Organisation EU-Japan Fest Japan Committee.
The performance is part of the 20th International Contemporary Dance Festival, organized by the Cultural Services of the Ministry of Education and Culture and the Rialto Theatre.
