» Goodbye wombats, platypus, Tasmanian devils...
Stop Mass-Scale Destruction of Tasmania's Forests | Dear friends, The new bill proposed to strip protections from vast swaths of forest land in Tasmania is so bad that even the Forest Industry of Tasmania opposes it. Much of the land slated to lose protection is in the Tarkine region, a biological hotspot home to the platypus, wombat, and threatened species like the Orange-bellied Parrot and Tasmanian devil. Conservationists have warned that allowing this much logging in such critical habitat would "spell doom" for many of these animals. Yet, so far, parliament has ignored these dire warnings and condemnations. Instead, representatives are too enamored of potential industry profits to think much about the permanent destruction this plan would wreak on wildlife and the environment. Thank you, | | Emily V.
