FAITH IN JESUS

Today, we see a court official pleads Jesus for the life of his son. He put his complete confidence in the person of Jesus. The official manifested his faith in Jesus. When Jesus said, “you may go, your son will live” without any second thought the official left the place. This shows his total trust in Jesus. As Jesus said, the official’s son was healed. The royal official witnessed a miracle. He received according to his faith.

One interesting thing to note about this passage is the contrast of Jesus’ words. At first, it almost sounds as if Jesus is angry when He says, “Unless you people see signs and wonders, you will not believe.” But then He immediately heals the boy telling the man, “Your son will live.”  Why this apparent contrast in Jesus’ words and action? Jesus is aware of the fact that many people are weak in faith. He is also aware of the fact that “signs and wonders” are beneficial for people at times so as to help them to believe. The ultimate goal of Jesus was not the physical healing.

Today the world is besought with physical, psychological and spiritual illnesses. People go from pillar to post seeking help. But do we go to Jesus the divine healer who can restore not only physical but emotional and spiritual health too? Do we have faith like the royal official?

Prayer: Lord, please increase my faith. Help me to see You acting in my life and to discover Your perfect love in all things. As I see You at work in my life, help me to know, with greater certainty, Your perfect love. Jesus, I trust in You. Amen.
