AMVETS continues to call for the public's help in completing the "National Desert Storm War Memorial"

Statement from Harold Chapman, AMVETS’ national commander: 

“It’s been more than 25 years since Saddam Hussein invaded Kuwait.  And, unfortunately, ‘Operation Desert Storm’ is becoming an historical footnote:  Some Americans remember it as a ‘video-game war’, which was over before it started; others blur the lines of history, and think of ‘Operation Desert Storm’ as part-one of ‘Operation Enduring Freedom’ or ‘Operation Iraqi Freedom’.  That’s why we at ‘AMVETS’ believe that building the ‘National Desert Storm War Memorial’ is so important:  Not only did nearly 400 Americans make the ultimate sacrifice for their country, but over 600-thousand other troops answered the call to serve—and were ready to lay down their lives, if need be.  Also, we liberated Kuwait—after a brutal, seven-month occupation—with the participation of 33 other, allied countries, around the globe.  The effort behind the ‘National Desert Storm War Memorial’ has made tremendous progress, over the past six years; however, we still need everyone’s support, to finish the job.  Help us establish this memorial on the ‘National Mall’, by visiting amvets.org.
