VOLUNTEERS FROM JAPAN - First park of Myth & Sculpture in Geroskipou
Pafos2017 will become a bridge to facilitate communication between people, countries and cultures. The creation of bonds and the promotion of mutual understanding and acceptance of differences are the incentives behind the invitation addressed to five young volunteers from Japan who will be hosted in the private homes of volunteers in Pafos. They will all work together to create the first park of Myth and Sculpture in Geroskipou, with the prospect that in this way will start a long tradition of urban intervention and cultural growth in Cyprus.
Myth and sculpture park
The past meets the present in everyday locations of Pafos and Geroskipou. Geroskipou has a wealth of antiquities, legends, traditions and natural beauty. In 2017, Geroskipou acquires its own sculpture park inspired by local legends. With particular reference to the history, myths and traditions of Geroskipou, ten Cypriot and foreign sculptors will be invited to create works drawing on the history of the area. In this way, the artists will contribute to the European Capital of Culture and will create the necessary conditions for growth in a large sculpture park of international interest that will claim its space on the map of public art exhibitions. The creators will be selected through an open call for projects and the artworks will be placed in a specially designed space in Geroskipou in 2017. The project is curated by Katerina Foukara and the opening is scheduled for 24 September 2017 at 19:00.
