Street Art Square
Street art is a form of art which has developed rapidly worldwide. Its dynamism, immediacy, its critical dimension and acute humour are all elements that have given it life and have turned it into an elemental part of the urban environment. Especially in the western world, street art and the modern city now seem intertwined, making this art form an integral part of the aesthetic, social, historical, and existential associations of contemporary urban culture. The absence of street art from the public space of Pafos until very recently poses a very interesting challenge for artists to produce street art works adapted to the aesthetics of the surrounding buildings. Through this event – which has been held for the last three years – street art will permeate areas of the city, converting them into landmarks of the Pafian landscape and rearranging the mapping of our daily life. The participating artists come from Cyprus, Greece, Europe, Asia and elsewhere. The idea and curatorship belong to Yiannis Sakellis.
