FROM ODYSSEY TO CP CAVAFY - Ancient Odeon, Pafos - 12 August

From Odyssey to C. P. Cavafy

The poetry of Cavafy, which carries a sense of nostalgia for a human voice lost, allows Thodoris Economou to approach it musically, shedding light on man’s passions and faults. Drawing on Robert Wilson’s Odyssey, and the home coming journey the music takes us to the myth of Ulysses. Passion and bravery, and the home coming journey are some of the motives which come to life through Economou’s musical language. The terms “Destination” and “Ulysses” function as keywords for Cavafy’s “Ithaca” with which director Giorgos Kimoulis opens his performance, before the music takes over.
