Nineveh (IraqiNews.com) Iraqi joint government forces recaptured on Monday another district in northern Mosul from Islamic State militants, one in a handful of spots remaining within the extremist group’s grip.
The Ministry of Defense said in a statement forces recaptured the district of Qawsiyat and a few other neighboring villages. Its announcement comes a few hours after military sources told Sputnik News that troops had invaded the district of Rashidiya.
The ministry’s statement added that more than 50 islamic State militants were killed in the Monday battles, while six vehicles, a booby-trapping workshop and C4 jerrycans used by them were seized and destroyed.
Prime Minister Haider al-Abadi said last week that troops had to free a few districts in northern Mosul to declare the eastern section of the city as totally IS-free, which would be the most remarkable victory over the extremist group since a campaign was launched to retake the city in mid October.
After retaking eastern Mosul, Iraqi generals hope to move immediately beyond the Tigris River towards Islamic State strongholds in the west, where military observers predict a tougher battle due to the higher density of the population.
A source at the Joint Operations Command said in a press statement on Monday that floating bridges had been extended above the Tigris River, preparing for the forces to move for battles at the western section of Mosul. He added that Iraqi fighter jets began to bombard IS locations in the west preparing for the battles, predicting a tougher battle there due to the density of the population residing narrow residential areas that are difficult to invade with military vehicles. http://www.iraqinews.com/features/no...-west-battles/

larrykn says(9:14 AM):
Baghdad (IraqiNews.com) U.S. forces have positioned in four districts in eastern Mosul to oversee the implementation of new combat plans as Iraqi forces become closer to retake that region from Islamic State militants, military sources say.
The bases were surrounded by tight security measures that deny access even to Iraqi troops and became under around-the-clock aerial watch as the Iraqi army’s Golden Division, a special operations force, prepares to carry out a newly-devised U.S. combat plan, an Iraqi army officer in Mosul was quoted by London-based al-Quds al-Arabi newspaper as saying.
The districts chosen as location for the new bases were al-Quds, Saddam, Zohour and Gogjali, according to the officer.
Based on the new plan, the Iraqi forces are advised not to isolate or besiege several districts combined, but instead besiege and recapture one at a time.
Though displaced families from those districts were barred from returning home by Iraqi forces who feared attacks by Islamic State militants, the U.S. forces allowed the families to return, according to the source.
The officer added that U.S. forces rely on the Golden Division in liberating Mosul districts, having formed and trained that division after the 2003 invasion of Iraq. He said “U.S. forces had made strict directives to those forces not to leave their casualties in the battlefield so as not to affect the morale of other forces.
Iraqi forces, backed by a U.S-led military coalition and popular forces, have been carrying out a major campaign since October to retake Mosul, Iraq’s second largest city an Islamic State extremists’ last urban stronghold in the country.
Iraqi generals said recently they became in control over 90 percent of the city’s eastern section and hope to move later to recapture the IS-held west.
Iraqi government and military officials have reiterated that U.S.-led international forces in the battlefield had only practiced an advisory, rather than combat, role, but some news reports have told of occasional combat contribution by those forces. http://www.iraqinews.com/iraq-war/u-...-combat-plans/

Anbar (IraqiNews.com) Airstrikes by fighter jets from the US-led coalition killed 38 members of the Islamic State militants in Anbar, some near the borders with Syria, on Monday.
Col. Walid al-Dailami, from the army’s Anbar Operations, said one of strikes targeted an IS location in al-Rabt, a region of the town of Qaem, near the Syrian borders, killing 33 at a training camp run by the group.
Meanwhile, Anbar’s top operations commander, Qassem al-Mohammadi, was quoted by AlMada Press as saying that five other militants were killed in coalition strikes at Wadi Muweil, west of the city of Ramadi. A booby-trapping workshop, a vehicle and a rocket launcher used by the group were also destroyed. he said.
IS has been holding Qaem, along with other few regions in western Anbar, since the group emerged in 2014 to proclaim a so-called “Islamic Caliphate”. Thousands of civilians are stranded under the group’s control and are barred from exiting.
The Iraqi army command in Anbar declared on the 5th of January the start of tribes-backed operations to retake IS remaining pockets in the province’s western regions. The operations lasted for a few days, recapturing a few villages, before halting again. Security sources said after the halt of operations that the government had decided to halt battles in Anbar until the end of operations in Mosul.
Iraqi and coalition fighter jets have, however, carried out regular strikes on Islamic State locations in the west. The group responded with stepping up several attacks in the past weeks that killed several security personnel.
On Sunday, Khalaf al-Jleibawi, a senior leader at al-Hashd al-Shaabi (Popular Mobilization Units), which fights IS with the government, said security forces had received confirmed information that several families of Islamic State militants had begun returning to the city of Ramadi, which security forces said they fully recaptured late 2015. http://www.iraqinews.com/iraq-war/co...borders-syria/

Video: Return of the files of corruption to the fore ... and to demand the intervention of Abadi "personally"
Monday, January 23, 2017 17:42
Hundreds of files raised by the Integrity Committee and its members about the existence of suspicions of corruption in the ministries and state bodies, but like its predecessors included on the shelves. If there are several ministries such as immigration and education as well as private banks that are difficult to control them suffering heavy corruption in the operations departments.
With respect to the Ministry of Displacement and Migration, demanded an MP for the high Nassif reform front necessity of the intervention of Prime Minister Haider al - Abadi "personally", the judiciary and the Integrity Commission to put an end to corruption "rampant" there, threatening to own deputies and personalities names Somoa ministry kept silent about scandals in exchange for money.
The private banks, are still above the file corruption in Iraq , has been a member of the Finance Committee in Parliament MP Jabbar al - Abadi said that many of the private banks has become the only work to buy the currency from the central bank official was worth and sell them to citizens and offices large teams, revealing an agreement with the Inspectorate of the Ministry of Finance Central Bank of the recommendations for a "control" over the work of private banks in the auction currency.
It is expected the Iraqi street , that these measures and investigations lead with spoilers to the positive results are reflected on the ground without being clasped in the air if not called until now in any of those against him on corruption charges. A matter which requires a serious stand of Almtsidin operations corruption lest gnaws the joints of the Iraqi state over which is suffering primarily from a major financial crisis.

This article is exactly what I have posted here before;
Class US site of the Iraqi currency [dinar] at the bottom of the strongest Arab currency arrangement.
According to the order published on [howmuch.net] the US, the GCC currencies were among the strongest Arab currencies, are bottom, including Iraq, Lebanon and the countries of the list.
And I occupied the Kuwaiti dinar, ranking first, followed by Oman, and then Bahrain, Jordan, Libya, Tunisia, Qatar, UAE, Saudi Arabia, Egypt, Sudan, Morocco, Algeria, Djibouti, Syria, Yemen, Mauritania, Comoros, Somalia, and then Iraq and Lebanon.
What is missing in the following list of currencies?
1 Egyptian Pound = $0.13
1 Jordanian Dinar = $1.41
1 Qatar Riyal = $0.27
1 Bahraini Dinar $2.65
1 Israeli Shekel = $0.26
1 Saudi Riyal = $0.27
1 United Arab Emirates Dirham = $0.27
1 Omani Riyal = $2.59
1 Kuwaiti Dinar = $3.31
1 Iraqi Dinar $0.00085
Sunshine1 says to MrsBGG(9:50 AM):
GM sweet lady. Had a good weekend. How about you?
Sunshine1 says to wmawhite(9:52 AM):
How can they be listed as one of strongest currencies and still have this rate?

Nothing has stated that the IQD is the strongest currency.
wmawhite says to Sunshine1(9:53 AM):
the Iraqi currency [dinar] at the bottom............of the strongest Arab currency arrangement.
Beeson says to wmawhite(9:54 AM):
is it true that they are the richest country ? or is that BS ?

I have talked on this several times - no one has any idea. Longest stretch in the last 5 years they have not updated.
Pablo says(10:01 AM):
Yeah. Very odd.
BGG says to Pablo(10:05 AM):
I have offered my opinion - it has something to do with the recent changes in how they do things within their banking system (going on right now) - and while odd, may have nothing to do with a change in value. I did not say - "nothing to do with currency reform" - because, if it has anything to do with the recent shake-up in their banking structure - then obviously, it has something to do with "currency reform".
Pablo says(10:07 AM):
Yes, they are pouncing on a lot of corruption and changing how they buy and sell dollars.
