There is the old adage that is pulled out from time to time to console someone left bereft by turn of fortune.
Don't ever cry over anything that cant cry back at you.
It's meaning is do not attach importance to the material things of life, only attach importance to people . Do not mourn the loss of your possessions, your riches , your things.. Mourn only the loss of family, friends, relationships.
Excuse me, but there is something that makes me think that the adage does not cover all contingencies.
This would cause me to cry, click and see for yourself , agree or don't .
I would think that the loss would be immeasurable, even in the midst of one of the great extinction cycles of history, the loss of this species would stand out. It would pain us greatly, far beyond the loss of the loss of other minor species, which are painful enough. I hope that we as a species can get a grip on the limits of our planets ability to sustain life and move toward paying it more attention. We have lost our sense of balance.
It will not make much difference to me of somewhat advanced age, but imagine the needs of the future. I have always liked Giraffes, Oh, I am sure they can be quite tough if defending themselves, they are large animals . But I have always had this idea that they went along foraging in the trees . Browsing and minding their own business. Their coats affording them wonderful camouflage. They were marvels of evolutionary accommodation.
Oh, for the wonder that bubbles into my soul. D.H.Lawrence
A giraffe is a source of wonderment, as is the entirety of the cycle of life. As we have a new political regime coming into office and there are raging debates over environmental issues . Let us not forget that we are in the midst of a great period of extinction.
