Roman-era tombs found in Western Turkey

Ancient tombs from the Roman era have been unearthed at a jobsite in the western Turkish province of Kütahya [Greek Kotyaion], prompting a halt to construction.

Three tombs have been found, according to Kütahya Museum Director Metin Türktüzün. “Preliminary examinations show that the tombs date back 2,000 years ago. Most probably, this region is an ancient necropolis. There are skeletons of four or five individuals in each tomb. Other tombs may be found in the area,” he said.

The project director of the construction, Orhan Erdoğan, said they would restart construction works in light of the information to be provided by archaeologists after examinations in the field.
