RECOGNIZING OUR BLINDNESS!
Two blind men are healed in today’s Gospel, not just because, they asked, but because their faith made it possible. “Do you believe that I can do this? Jesus asks. ‘Yes Lord’, they said to him. Let it be done for you according to your faith.”If such a question: “Do you believe in me?” was asked to us today, what would be our answer? It is not just the matter of answering in words, but also in how we act in our daily lives. The need of witnessing their faith is clearly obvious in their actions after their sight has been restored. Even though Jesus warned them strictly, the men spread word of him through all the land. This curing like others miracles is not a merely a physical but a salvific event. This event is not limited to those two blind men of Israel of that time and space. In other words it has a transcendental dimension that is to say it affects me and it touches me; it has a message for me here and now.
Do I recognize the blindness in me? Do I approach Jesus believing that he can cure me and do I seek his intervention? As is found in the today’s responsorial psalm, our only “light and salvation” is the Lord who is able to give us that inner light. We need to see and recognize well the reality about ourselves so that, in faith and humility, we can ask him to cure our very subtle blindness.
Prayer: Lord, do help me to see and help me to share the joy of seeing You with others. May that joy flow from my life for all to see. Jesus, I trust in You. Amen
