LISTENING TO THE VOICE OF GOD

In the first reading we hear: “Whether you turn to the right or to the left, your ears will hear a voice behind you, saying, this is the way; walk in it.” Prophet Isaiah assures the people that if they seek God’s guidance, they would find it - “This is the Way, walk in it!”

Today we celebrate the Feast of Saint Francis Xavier, Patron saint of missions. The missionary zeal and commitment to evangelization brought him to India and Japan and almost to China. Saint Francis heard the voice of God through Saint Ignatius: ‘What does it profit a man if he gains the whole world but loses his very soul?’ Francis felt compelled to listen to it. This led him to preach the gospel as "an obligation that was imposed on him." So Francis could face any difficulty because he had the utmost confidence in God, in Jesus Christ.

Until we hear and obey the voice, we will never be set free. It is simply a matter of making up our minds to accept God’s will for our lives, no matter what it is! We all make mistakes in life. Some of us lose our direction along the path. We need to retune ourselves and pay attention to God’s voice within us.

Prayer: Lord, thank You for the Gift of Your life.  Thank You for coming to earth to enter into my life.  Thank You for the joy of knowing You and loving You.  May I allow this joy to so transform my life that I may continually seek to give You to others.  Jesus, I trust in You. Amen.
