Dear friends,
Imagine you live in a city like Aleppo, Syria where civil war is raging all around you. You try to stick it out, but after years of hell, you and your family make the difficult decision to leave everything you know.
You trek for hundreds of miles trying to make it to safety. But then you find borders closed, and you and your family are trapped with nowhere to go.
At Amnesty International, our Crisis Response team receives phone calls and emails — from all over the world and at all hours of the day — about people who need help fast.
Right now, our crisis team’s resources are stretched thin. With the refugee crisis surging globally, families who fear violence and retribution are relying on us. But the truth is, we’re relying on you.
Amnesty teams have been tirelessly working on the front line of the refugee crisis in Syria, Greece, Hungary and Jordan; documenting human rights abuses, inspecting detention centers and refugee camps, and pressuring governments to take more action.
This crisis is enormous and our response must match it. We are working to:
  • Advocate for families trying to escape the besieged city of Aleppo, Syria.
  • Improve humanitarian access for the most vulnerable refugees.
  • Speak out to stop President-elect Trump from putting into practice any of the anti-refugee rhetoric and policy proposals he promoted during his campaign.
  • Collect and publicize refugee stories to stop fear mongering and to maintain public support for a compassionate and human rights-centered response to the crisis.
  • Investigate violations of refugees’ human rights, and document the situation facing refugees in Europe, the Middle East, Africa, and around the world so that we can build global support for refugees.
Have you ever heard about someone in a desperate situation and thought, ‘somebody has to do something’? I’m writing to tell you, you can be that somebody. Donate now and your gift will go three times as far.
Thank you,
