I was inspired by "Samurai Jacket". I made this coat from Simplicity 1318, it turned out like a blanket coat.

It was the second time that I used this pattern. When I saw this pattern on PatternReview.com for the first time, so I thought the previous reviewer's jackets were great! I really wanted to make mine, so I made one last summer. I finished up the summer jacket with flower pattern fabric, but when I looked at myself with it in the mirror; I was sooooo disappointed and had no words...It was really tacky! I wanted to make a modern kimono sleeve jacket, but it looks like a "Happi".
↑Happi
A happi is a kind of kimono, traditional Japanese straight-sleeved coat. They are usually only worn to festivals. Recently, electronics retail store clerks have begun to wear them as a uniform and comedians likewise wear them on TV shows. When celebrities from different countries visit Japan, they often wear a happi. I think that when a Japanese woman (ME!) wears a kimono jacket, it looks like a clerk in uniform or a comedian, lol. I NEVER showed it to my husband and threw it away quickly. If he saw it, he would laugh so hard.
A few weeks ago, I found this jacket (Named samurai jacket) on a US fashion site, I saw it several times on other sites as well. These coats were sold by a Japanese men's clothing company "Trove" (You can see another jackets: here). The navy wool jacket has a wool shell exterior and is lined with cupra rayon...I like it! I almost forgot about having Simplicity 1318, but I still had it ∑(・o・;) I decided to make mine again so made it is suitable for autumn version.

I cut a size S, view C, and used VERSUS wool. I only changed the sleeve design a little bit. The sleeve pattern is too big and balky to use with thick fabric. I took the width of cuffs by 6.3 inches and the width of sleeves by 4 inches, so I added an inch to the length of cuffs. I used open facing and lined the cuffs with thin black poly cotton. I usually shorten the hem, but I didn't this time (I am 5'4"). I love the rounded hem, it's unique as an autumn jacket. This pattern doesn't have a pocket, so I added the patched pockets and sewed fringes around them, front opening and cuffs too.

If someone asks will I make it again?...It's difficult question for me, because I failed to make a summer version. If you have any nice idea, PLEASE let me know. I am proud of the new one and happy that I saved this pattern now:) Thank you for reading.
