Dear friends,
Imagine living the past four years by yourself in a six foot by ten foot cell, with 24 hour light, no contact with the outside world, and no end in sight.
It sounds like a nightmare and yet this is the life of Adam Capay, a 24-year-old Indigenous man from Northern Ontario. Horrifyingly, Adam Capay has not even been convicted of a crime and is living his life in solitary awaiting trial.
Adam's mental health has worsened considerably during his time in solitary. Ontario's Human Rights Commissioner visited him recently and said he spends most of his time drifting in and out of consciousness, and has lost some speech and language abilities.
This inhumane treatment must stop immediately. According to the United Nations, indefinite or prolonged solitary confinement like Adam's can amount to torture. No human being should be subjected to living conditions as horrible as these.
Thank you for all that you do,
 Miranda B.
