BE ON YOUR GUARD AND PRAY!

Today’s readings invite us to be on our guard, to be vigilant and pray. Jesus gives a similar message when he was asked about the coming of the Kingdom (Lk 17:20-21). The coming of the Kingdom will arrive like lightning; unexpected, without previous warning. We must hence be attentive and prepared. When the wait is very long, there is the risk of losing the focus and attention. Jesus here warns us of three things: being overindulgence in sensual pleasures; drunkenness and preoccupation with the worries of this life. We must be on our guard so “that day does not catch us unexpectedly, like a trap”, a reminder to us that God doesn’t want that anyone among us is lost. Prayer gives us insights, makes us watchful, while it silences our anxieties and provides the strength to continue living in God’s Word. It also helps the believer to stand justified before the Son of Man.

Prayer: O Lord, help us to be watchful and prayerful. Amen.
