First Week of Advent
Is 2:1-5;
Ps 122:1-9;
Mt 8: 5-11.
ARE YOU WILLING TO AMAZE JESUS?
In today’s Gospel we see Jesus amazed by the faith of the Centurion. His faith is so strong, with conviction, that the word of Jesus was enough to cure his servant from a distance. ‘’Only say the word and my servant will be healed’’ (Mt 8:8). It is the faith that prompts the centurion, a Non-Jew, to anticipate trustingly a cure. The Centurion, thus recognizes the divine authority of Jesus over the earthly realities, he acknowledges his own sinfulness and unworthiness to receive Jesus in his house. Knowing our weakness too, we repeat the words of the Centurion each time, we receive Holy Communion.
The Advent season is a season of attentiveness and anticipation, we know people near and far who will be comforted by our attentiveness to their needs, when presenting these needs to Jesus, do we really and confidently anticipate his loving and merciful response? This Advent, could we amaze Christ by our real conversion and good deeds on behalf of our neighbors especially those neglected and rejected?
Prayer: Most loving Father, help me to know that you are always near in every need that frightens or troubles me. Make my Advent a crying out to your healing power. Amen.
