C / Peñuelas 41, 18 to 25 November 2016. ---- Coinciding with the reopening of its
headquarters in Madrid, the Libertarians Anselmo Lorenzo Foundation Studies pays tribute
to Buenaventura Durruti figure in the eightieth anniversary of his death. Durruti
embodies and represents the figure of the anarchist militant who aspires to an
emancipatory social revolution of the working class . From an early age he was
characterized by his rebellious character, austere and militant. Deeply committed ith his
ideas, he participated in numerous trade union and social conflicts of the time as a
member of the CNT and FAI. ---- Arrested, exiled and imprisoned on several occasions, he
led a nomadic life in different places in Spain, America and Europe. It was part of
libertarian groups dedicated to defensive action, punitive and expropriating. In the
Francoist uprising in July 1936 in Barcelona, takes an active part in the struggle to
counteract the blow, one of the first militant workers to lead a column in front of
Aragon, the same charge was elected, that would be the famous Durruti Column.
Asked by the Confederation and the Republic, goes hastily with a portion of said column to
Madrid, a city that desperately defends against the fascist forces that beset day and
night. No rest goes to fight in the sector assigned to it, and died on November 20, in
unclear circumstances in front of University City. His death was a blow to the morale of
the fighters and the working class, which saw in Durruti the profile of a selfless and
unconditional fighter in search of a free humanity.
Homage and Buenaventura Durruti's memory as a legend, myth and exponent of thousands of
anarcho-syndicalists who contributed their efforts and life for a libertarian society,
fighting the reaction and all forms of authoritarianism. Always live in our memory as an
example of the ideals of anarchism.
