THE COMPASSION OF GOD!
In today’s Gospel Jesus heals a crippled woman who was possessed by a spirit for eighteen years. But the leaders of the synagogue were unhappy, because they were concerned about the Sabbath and not about the suffering woman. That is why Jesus calls them ‘hypocrites’, for they fail to cater to the needs of the people, teaching them fear and creating fright in the hearts of people about God. They failed to show and teach mercy and compassion of God the Father and always focused on the punishment, retribution and keen observance of the law.
In a similar way St Paul is exhorting the Ephesians to be kind, tender-hearted, and forgiving towards others because God has shown his forgiveness through Jesus his son. He calls them to imitate God by loving Christ Jesus as that is the only way towards God and he is the only one who has given us the true knowledge of God. Jesus is inviting you today to visit the sick, the suffering and show them the compassion, God has shown towards you.
Prayer: Dear Lord, help us experience Your love and compassion so that we may become true lights of your kindness and tenderness towards the whole humanity. Amen.
