FEARLESS PROCLAMATION OF THE GOSPEL!

Does it bother you what others think about you? About how you dress? What you say? How to conduct yourself? Are you scared to do certain things or not to do other things because of what someone will think about it? That’s called fear of man and that is not the right kind of fear. The right kind of fear is a fear of God, of what he thinks and what he commands and of what he expects. But it is not like the fear of one who punishes. The believer’s fear is reverence of God. This reverence is the motivating factor for us to surrender to the Creator of the Universe.

In the Gospel there is an exhortation to be fearless especially in times of trials and persecutions. The Christian is expected to be fearless in proclaiming the Gospel of love, yes, even from the rooftops. For this proclamation to be fruitful and effective, God has sealed and anointed us with his Holy Spirit (Eph 1:13; 2Cor 1:21) as a first installment in our journey towards salvation. We have not received the spirit of slavery to fall back into fear, but a spirit of sonship through which we cry out “Abba Father” (Rom 8:15). For a fearless proclamation and not to shrink back into fear, it is important that we grow in the presence of the Holy Spirit.

Prayer: Lord, help us to exercise the spirit of fearlessness that You have called us to in proclaiming the Gospel. Amen.
