THE RESURRECTION: THE GOAL OF OUR LIFE!

In the first reading, St Paul is addressing a problem in the unbelief in the truth of the Resurrection. St Paul clearly explains that the Resurrection of the dead is the fundamental truth on which our faith is founded. “If there is no resurrection of the dead,” he says, “then Christ has not been raised… and your faith has been in vain” (1 Cor 15: 13-14). We are raised with a spiritual body, which is totally different from our physical body. The physical body is perishable and weak, while the spiritual body is imperishable, powerful and raised in glory. This is what we, as Christians, believe in, look forward to and live for. Similarly, God creates every person in order to enter into the glory of the resurrection and ‘remain eternally with him in heaven.’ However, the gospel parable narrates how many of us like seeds fail to achieve this purpose. The resurrection is a gift, not a right, and it will be given to those who like the seed in the good soil, hold fast to the commandments of the Lord “in an honest and good heart, and bear fruit with endurance.”

Prayer: Lord, thank you for the gift of the resurrection. Make me worthy to receive it. Amen.
