THE QUEST FOR HAPPINESS!

Every human heart is made for happiness. God in himself, in his divine Trinity, is supreme bliss, supreme joy and supreme happiness. Today’s Scriptures tell us that the poor are on the safer way to greater happiness than the rich. The human soul, with its sublime beauty and capacity for divinization, is tainted, tarnished and defiled by becoming enslaved to material wealth and pleasure. The disordered desire for money, houses, land and property have ruined the happiness of many individuals and families.

Today’s Gospel speaks of another craze that deceives many mortals: the craving for prestige and reputation. “Woe to you when all speak well of you, for this was the way their ancestors treated the false prophets” (Lk 6: 26). “Blessed are you when people hate you, and when they exclude you, revile you, and defame you on account of the Son of Man. Rejoice in that day and leap for joy, for surely your reward is great in heaven; for that is what their ancestors did to the [TRUE] prophets. (Lk 6: 22-23).

Prayer: “You have made us for Yourself, O Lord! and our hearts are restless, till they rest in You!” (St Augustine). Amen.
