Stop the Killing: Save Next Year's Toro de la Peña!

Stop the Killing: Save Next Year's Toro de la Peña!

Dear friends,
Until this year, a bull has been speared to death each year at the "Toro de la Vega" in Tordesillas, Spain since the 1500s. Though local officials banned the public bull-slaying part this past May, the unlucky animal at this year's festival was still abused, persecuted and eventually sacrificed at the end of the event.
Rebranded "Toro de la Peña," the festival still hasn't changed where it counts. By tradition, the killing was public. But rather than outlawing the killing, officials focused on the public part, which meant this year's animal was still slaughtered - just without cameras present.
Tradition isn't a good enough reason for an innocent animal to die. It's past time for Tordesillas' leaders to mandate that the bulls in their celebration have a future after the party ends.
Thank you,
 Emily V.
