Save Penguins - Stop China's Overfishing!

Dear friends, China's fishing industry is rapidly growing — and without regulations, this could spell big trouble for fish populations and Antarctic wildlife like penguins. The fishing industry in China has grown to ten times the size of the United States'. Unchecked growth is one problem, but several international ocean monitoring agencies also suspect that China is underreporting its total fish harvest and conducting illegal fishing expeditions. Fish populations — and creatures like penguins who depend on abundant ocean life to survive — could face serious threats if we don't intervene and establish checks and quotas. Last year Chinese officials announced they wanted to increase their krill harvest in Antarctica from 32,000 tonnes to an astonishing 2 million tonnes.Krill are a major food source for Antarctic wildlife, including penguins who may starve without enough krill to eat. Put simply, reckless overfishing by China doesn't just threaten fish — it also risks the survival of wildlife that depends on krill and other sea life for survival.
