Risking everything

Dear friends,
Ugandan activists are willing to risk everything to show their Pride.
Last month, a Uganda Pride event was brutally raided by the police. Attendants were arrested and beaten, and a government minister threatened to incite violent mobs if the main Pride Parade went ahead.
After working diligently to gain permission from the police, the parade was rescheduled for this Saturday. Two days ago, that permission was suddenly revoked. And today, Lokodo issued a chilling statement threatening the LGBT community with arrest if they go ahead.
Our incredibly brave brothers and sisters in Uganda are not backing down. On Saturday they will peacefully march in defiance. They will march with Pride. They will show the world that love wins.
But they need to see that the world has their backs. Show your support by posting a picture of yourself like the one below onFacebook and Twitter, using #IStandWithPrideUganda. We’ll share your posts with the activists who are risking everything to show their Pride.
Show your support for Pride Uganda.
You can download a sign for your photo here, or just write your own message to hold up.
This small act of solidarity will mean so much to the courageous people in Uganda marching this Saturday. Following the minister’s statement, those participating in Pride are taking a huge risk.
Our friends in Uganda told us how empowering it is to know that the world is with them. They said messages of love and solidarity help them to stay strong. Let them know that you reject Lokodo’s attempt to incite violence and hatred against them. Let them know you stand with them.
