Книга продолжает тему, в краткой форме освещенную в томе 2 этой серии [Ecological Studies, Hazards, Solutions], и значительно полнее, чем том 2, излагает результаты исследований автора, установившего новые биологические эффекты при воздействии синтетических поверхностно-активных веществ (ПАВ, СПАВ) на автотрофные и гетеротрофные, прокариотные и эукариотные организмы. Были исследованы анионные, неионогенные и катионогенные ПАВ. Среди организмов, реагирование которых исследовано в опытах – бактерии, цианобактерии, водоросли, жгутиковые, высшие растения и беспозвоночные (моллюски, аннелиды). Результаты обсуждаются в связи с проблемами оценки экологической опасности антропогенных воздействий на биосферу и гидросферу, в связи с изучением самоочищения воды и определением природоохранных приоритетов. Приведенные в книге новые факты о воздействии ПАВ на фильтрационную активность двустворчатых моллюсков признаны открытием (Диплом о научном открытии № 274) (см.: http://idea.emind.ru/discovery/show/67). Книга представляет интерес для исследователей, работающих в области экологии, лимнологии, океанографии, гидробиологии, наук об окружающей среде и биосфере, экотоксикологии, для преподавателей высшей школы, аспирантов, студентов. Книга отмечена Дипломом Академии проблем водохозяйственных наук (2006). Книга переведена на английский язык, издана совместно двумя издательствами в США и Великобритании.

Ostroumov's concerns and focus. The hardbound work is said to provide a foundation for exploration of how hazardous wastes are absorbed in both aquatic and terrestrial ecosystems. The text presents information on actions required for remediation and restoring water quality. Были исследованы анионные, неионогенные и катионогенные ПАВ. Среди организмов, реагирование которых исследовано в опытах – бактерии, цианобактерии, водоросли, жгутиковые, высшие растения и беспозвоночные (моллюски, аннелиды). Результаты обсуждаются в связи с проблемами оценки экологической опасности антропогенных воздействий на биосферу и гидросферу, в связи с изучением самоочищения воды и определением природоохранных приоритетов. Приведенные в книге новые факты о воздействии ПАВ на фильтрационную активность двустворчатых моллюсков признаны открытием (Диплом о научном открытии № 274) (см.: http://idea.emind.ru/discovery/show/67). Книга представляет интерес для исследователей, работающих в области экологии, лимнологии, океанографии, гидробиологии, наук об окружающей среде и биосфере, экотоксикологии, для преподавателей высшей школы, аспирантов, студентов. Книга отмечена Дипломом Академии проблем водохозяйственных наук (2006). Книга переведена на английский язык, издана совместно двумя издательствами в США и Великобритании.

Ostroumov’s book ‘Aquatic Organisms in Water Self-Purification and Biogenic Migration of Elements’ (2008, 200 p.). Hydrobionts (aquatic organisms) are actively involved in various processes leading to water purification. Almost all main groups of organisms are involved, which is discussed and analyzed in the paper. In the theory, the results of the author's experiments on the effects of various pollutants on aquatic organisms were used. The theory is an innovative basis for new ecological technologies to clean water and to upgrade its quality by using aquatic organisms.

A new theory for the biomechanisms for water self-purification is presented in the S.A. Ostroumov’s book ‘Aquatic Organisms in Water Self-Purification and Biogenic Migration of Elements’ (2008, 200 p.). Hydrobionts (aquatic organisms) are actively involved in various processes leading to water purification. Almost all main groups of organisms are involved, which is discussed and analyzed in the paper. In the theory, the results of the author's experiments on the effects of various pollutants on aquatic organisms were used. The theory is an innovative basis for new ecological technologies to clean water and to upgrade its quality by using aquatic organisms.
