containers also the ones of the registration burned. 5.000 people have
been evacuated at night but not brought anywhere for shelter, so they
started walking direction Mitilini town. The riot police stoped them.
For the 100 minors in the hotspot there was a solution found and they
where brought for few days to PIKPA camp near the airport. All others
stayed outside in the woods and the streets. Now some return on their own

yeasterday morning "woried" inhabitants of the village of Moria had
called for a demonstration in Mitilini town against the situation
produced through the too many people being held in Moria. (they are not
again the hotspot that brought money to their village but the
destruction ocuring through the overcrowded place, they say. Their
demonstration was also visited by members of the fascists party who at
the end of the demo, while the inhabitants where talking to the Major
attacked 5 joung women, standing there, not participating at the
demonstration. One of them had to be brought to hospital with injuries
in her leg. The police although present, let the fascists act.
Lesvos Hotspot Moria and camp Karatepe are overcrowded . The main
reason is that no refugees are aloud to depart for mainland, Mouzalas
repeats since few days in the media that he has to take permission from
the eu to transport refugees away because it is part of the eu türkey
deal to keep them on the islands. So it is obviously the european union
that decides about the movements of refugees in greece, and not the
greek govement .
the second reason is that the asylum system doesnt funktion, also due to
the missing capacity of people registering and taking the aplications.
Minors are since months locked in Moria, and wouldnt be the local
solidarity group SINIPARXIS taking them twice a week out for a swimm,
and twice the week in the afternoons out in town, they would never see
anything than prison for months. Among them even 12 year old kids.
Even people having family members in greece must stay on the island and
are not aloud to unite with their family members in other parts of Greece.
The only way to get "illegaly" out of the island is hidden in loreys in
the ferry to Pireus or Kavala. The price for an "illegal" journey to the
mainland is now costing 800.- euros! more than the prise from turkey to
the islands that is now much cheaper and makes it possible for people
with little money but willing to take big risk, to travel.a normal
ticket to athens costs not more than 50.- euro.
around 3.500 ngo workers are on the island, working in the hotspot ,the
camp kara tepe and the diferent hotels or apartments hosting vulnerable
refugees.maybe the frontex, easo workers are counted also in this
number, only that their monthly salary is even higher than the number
of ngo workers, while greek salarys are between 400-800 euro.
many loclas have found work on the refugee issue. still hotel owners
complain for a very bad season and fascist elements use the situation
for their rassist agressions.
what will happen today is unknown...
stay tuned.
