THE SEEDS OF THE WORD OF GOD!

“HONEY FROM THE ROCK”
Wednesday, 20th July 2016,
Sixteenth Week of Ordinary Time

Jer 1: 1, 4-10;
Ps 70: 1-6, 15, 17;
Mt 13: 1-9

Jesus had come down from the highest heights of wisdom and glory to teach heavenly spirituality to fisher-men, farmers, merchants and house-wives. Hence, he used parables that simple people could understand, in order to unveil to them the mysteries of the Kingdom of God. In the gospel today, using a boat as his pulpit, the Teacher addresses the crowds gathered by the lakeside: “Imagine a sower going out to sow …” Jesus was now leading the imagination and understanding of his huge audiences from what they knew to what they did not know, from things that were earthly to things that were heavenly, from the material to the spiritual, from the kingdom of man to the kingdom of God. How much would those sons and daughters of the soil grasp what Jesus was driving at? How much do we, in this 21st century, really understand the meaning of today’s gospel message? The scattered seeds bear a thirty-fold, others, sixty-fold and a hundred-fold. It has been that way for the past two thousand years. The seeds are the ideas and inspirations being scattered by the Word of God on generation after generation of Christians. The field is the mind of the hearers.

Prayer: O Holy Spirit, open my mind and heart, to Your revelation of truth and love. Amen.
