Nitwits

Last night I was forced to sit through a version of  Bridge over troubled water , that I knew deep in my heart would arrive at some point..  The formerly supremely talented Paul Simon would deliver it and I would find it almost unrecognizable.  It happened pretty much the way I pictured it, age and alcohol seem to be the great levelers for many, Mr. Simon seemingly is not exempt.  Although out of respect for his former beauty no one said a word.   I am being kind

It was sort of sad  because it reminds me that along with Simon, that  the people of my generation have aged, and we no longer shine as brightly  as we once did.   At the same time I wondered if all those young persons assembled at the Democratic National Convention attached any significance to the music and the times from which it sprang.  Ours too was an idealistic grouping.  We had Woodstock and we had Vietnam and we had peace and love and  we then trudged off to work , where we have been for the most part  over the last 50 years.  We have seen attempts to accept other races, other preferences, other lifestyles, other religions and non religions.  From my perspective we boomers have become a remarkably tolerant group.  The racism that so many speak of is a foreign concept to my way of thinking.

But I was amused a bit at watching teary eyed millennials crying in their cups over the fix that had been revealed to them only hours before.  They wept at the idea that their man Bernie had been cut our of the party nomination by a supposedly neutral DNC.  Did they cry for Bernie and the unfairness, did they cry when they found out that they had been duped in the singular cynical way of the Democratic party.  Did they cry over the overt corruption of the process ?  I wondered what they were thinking.  Did they cry over the prospect of no free college,  or no free everything for that matter.  The lifelong prospect of college debt is certainly enough to bring tears to eyes.

Wasserman Schultz was made to walk the plank.  Loyal soldier of the Clinton campaign (remember her role in 2008) would get no reprieve from Obama , who reportedly reveled in her twisting in the wind.  It appeared that no one cried for her, the opposite was true, her actions were considered and she was doomed politically in much the same way as Ted Cruz  was following his speech at the RNC. It is over for at least two.  Her comments regarding the disarray of the RNC would come back to bite her in the ass. Judging from reactions I felt as if my own assessment of her was on the mark, no one liked her, no one respected her and no one considered her to be talented.  She was fairly typical of the national political figure,.

Brian Fallon , Clinton Campaign Spokesperson took on the role of major fool with his pronouncements that Putin was responsible for the E Mail scandal.  I thought his aluminum foil hat fit especially well and his talk would appeal to the flakes of that variety.  I mean Putin who has a country he is barely able to keep together , and only does so because the population is too drunk to care, was helping Trump by hacking E Mails.   Brian, explain to me again, did Vlad the bad design the scheme to throw and rig the election ?  Did he pull dirty tricks on Bernie ?  Did he hire protesters to show up at Trump rallies ?    Oh, yeah did he author the e mails ?  The problem was not the hack the problem was getting caught.  That always seems to be a Clinton problem---- the reveal.  Beg forgiveness rather than seek permission.  But blaming this on Putin is almost unbelievably flakey.
Makes you wonder who we have running this train.Hats On, Hats Off

It was an entertaining night and day.  I especially enjoyed the "Lock her up " chant outside the hall, which caused most network personnel to nearly choke, for they were particularly harshly critical of the practice last week at RNC, but amazingly silent when faced with it at the DNC.  Which only highlights the hypocrisy of the News business.  Laura Ingrahams exhortation to the media  to "do your job"  could not have fallen on more deaf ears.  Would it be that they would do their job.

So to all the millennials who stood there weaping stop being "ridiculous" as Sara Silverman says and get used to the idea that you are only  thiere to get played, get duped and get stroked.  Then wise up and understand that they really don't do anything for you  and the only thing that you need be concerned about is that you seek out the politician who will not promise to do you good, seek out the one who only promises to not screw you too badly.

And when you get around to that be sure to wave the American flag.  In an unbelievable gaffe, the DNC  did not festoon the hall with flags and bunting. RED WHITE AND BLUE were absent.  This still is America , well for at least another 5 months or so. It is astounding that Old Glory was conspicuously absent.

I have now 65 years of politicians who have been fighting for me.  The core of their being has been to fight for me.  I wish I had 65 years of politicians who had just left me alone.
