WHO IS MY MASTER - GOD OR MONEY?
“A divided heart is a sad heart.” We all know that, because it is a worried heart and an impossible heart. Today we hear Jesus saying that no man can serve two masters. We cannot give our self completely to God when we are caught up with money. Why not? Because each demands the fullness of loyalty and dedication! God demands the fullness not for his sake but for our own sake. We simply cannot be whole and happy without God. And God alone can satisfy every desire of the human heart. No man can serve two masters for a long time. As long as the masters go in the same direction together, the servant can walk behind them, but once the masters part their ways he has to decide upon his loyalties; he has to choose one and leave the other. No matter how often people abandoned God and worshiped idols, money and wealth, God never gave up on them. Let us remember these words of God: “I will never leave you nor forsake you” (Deut31: 6). The basic lesson from the history of mankind - no man can serve two masters is a reality. The true Christian can never do justice to God by being immersed with worldly possessions and pleasures. The evil in our trying to duplicate loyalty lies in our failure to trust in our Father’s loving care. We try to find security in our possessions and riches. God wants us to keep our morals and values straight for our happiness and peace. God knows our needs even before we ask and he gives generously to those who trust in him.
Prayer: Give me neither poverty nor riches; feed me with the food that I need; or I shall be full, and deny You and say, ‘Who is the Lord?;’ or I shall be poor, and steal, and profane the name of my God. Amen.
