HOW DO I ENTER THE KINGDOM OF GOD?
Who will enter the Kingdom of God or how can one enter the Kingdom of God is one of the most common questions that we hear from people. A rich young man had come to Jesus asking the same question (Mk 10: 17-31). In today’s Gospel Jesus gives the answer to this question, Do the will of God (Mt 7: 21).God’s will is revealed to us through various ways. One who opens the Scriptures and reads it meditatively will come to know what God expects of him or her. One who listens to one’s own conscience and others will also come to know God’s will. Jesus taught his disciples and continues to teach us how to do God’s will. When he said “Love God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your might and your neighbour as yourself” (Lk 10: 27), he was revealing God’s will to his disciples. When one’s life is filled with love for God and neighbour one does the will of God. Then can one enter the Kingdom of God.
The life of a wise man, a man who hears the word of God and does the will of God, is like a house built on rock. Even if there are sufferings, pains, sorrows and problems, he will be able to withstand all such things. Whereas one who listens to the Word of God, but does not put it into practice is like a foolish man who built his house upon the sand. He will crumble down at the smallest storm or tempest of life! Today we should take the example of Jesus. He says, “My food is to do the will of the Father” (Jn 4: 34) meaning doing God’s will, which sustained him throughout his life.
Prayer: The Lord is my rock, my fortress, and my deliverer, my God, my rock in whom I take refuge, my shield, and the horn of my salvation, my stronghold (Ps 18: 2). Amen
