DO NOT JUDGE!
In today’s gospel Jesus tells us not to judge others. Why should we not judge others? Firstly, participants in the kingdom of God are to leave the judgment to the final judge. Like their master they are to be involved in healing and restoration. Fraternal correction of a wrong is not being condemned here, but rather the spirit in which the correction is being done. The motivation is always, loving one’s neighbour as oneself. Secondly, we never know the whole facts or the whole person. It is almost impossible for any man to be strictly impartial in his judgment. No man is good enough to judge any other man. We would do well to concentrate on our own faults and to leave the faults of others to God. There is a beautiful Chinese saying: “We see only one third of what lies in front of our eyes, but two thirds is behind our eyes.”
Prayer: Merciful Lord, help me first to rectify my own life before I offer fraternal correction to others. Amen.
