DISCIPLE, HERE AND NOW!

Jesus is the presence of God in our life. Our Christian life is living the life of Jesus. It is not only a message, but the person of Christ. The Christian faith is not a “religion of the word of God”, not of “a written and mute word, but of the incarnate and living Word” (Pope Emeritus Benedict XVI).

Today, we might get the impression that Jesus is demanding something unreasonable of those who are and wish to become his followers. To the disciple who wanted to go and bury his father, Jesus says, “Follow me, and let the dead bury their dead.” This statement does not show Jesus as a heartless man, rather Jesus is asking us not to wait on to settle matters of life before following Him. We many a times respond to God’s call saying, I have to take care of my family, I need to fulfill my plans I made a few years before I serve the Lord. Today, we are called to understand this priority that God comes first, and that the rest will fall in place. The Christian discipleship begins here and now.

Prayer: Lord, I ask you to make me understand that you alone suffice, Help me to give up all that obstructs me from You to hear your call here and now. Amen.
